Annual Flow Rate for Hatchet Creek

Hatchet Creek is a seasonal creek. The best time to canoe is late March through late May. If you can catch a warm day in February you can get a good ride. We have made it from 280 to 231 in three hours. However, you should plan on a full 6-8 hours under Spring time flow rates to make the trip between the bridges. I would recommend a minimum flow rate of 300 CFS for a good trip, 800 CFS is perfect.

During the Fall months the water is so low you spend most of your time dragging the boat over rocks. Most of the shoals are not deep enough to float through and the water is warm. Fall is not a good time to canoe unless you put in above Hatchet Creek dam and paddle the backwaters.
